Homeloans Home Buyer Barometer

Skyrocketing cost of living outstrips rising interest rates concerns, according to latest home buyer research

Although Australians are bracing for an interest rate rise ahead of Christmas, home buyers are currently more concerned about the rising cost of living, according to the latest Homeloans Home Buyer Barometer.

The survey by non-bank mortgage provider Homeloans Ltd of more than 2000 current and potential homebuyers from across Australia showed that skyrocketing everyday living expenses far outstrips interest rates as their greatest financial concern over the next 12 months (34 per cent compared with 24 per cent). And interest rates were less of a concern than they were in April, when they were the number one financial concern amongst home buyers (32 per cent compared with 28 per cent for increasing living expenses.)

Flaming fantastic!

The Australian backyard is defined by the iconic hub around which we meet and greet friends and family – and inevitably “throw a prawn” on – the beloved Aussie barbecue.

We Aussies don’t shy away from the icons that made a name for us on the world stage. Our beaches, vegemite, the koala, Croc Dundee and the humble (or these days not so humble) Aussie barbie from which our national fare springs forth from. Read more...

Rate increase before the end of the year?

The big financial news for October, and more importantly the good news for mortgage borrowers, was the Reserve Bank’s decision to keep the cash rate unchanged.

“This was undoubtedly a surprise to the market,” says Scott McWilliam, Homeloans’ general manager of funding and operations.

The expectation of interest rates going up was so great that, in the hours leading up to the RBA decision, the Futures market was pricing a 75% chance of a 25 basis point rate hike.

However, just because the RBA elected not to increase the cash rate in October doesn’t mean that it will do the same later in the year. Read more...

Interest rate decrease : Homeloans Ltd bucks the trend

MEDIA RELEASE
11 October 2010

Homeloans Ltd bucks the trend
Mortgage rate reduced by 0.31 per cent

National mortgage provider Homeloans Ltd today announced it has dropped the rate on its popular full-doc MoniPower loan by 0.31 per cent.

Greg Mitchell, Homeloans’ general manager retail, calls the move “a positive development at a time when borrowers are expecting bad news.”

“It’s widely expected the Reserve Bank will decide to increase interest rates when it meets in November,” Mitchell says. “In addition, pundits are predicting that major banks will soon be lifting rates – over and above any official tightening in interest rates by the RBA – but we’ve bucked the trend and done the opposite.
“This further demonstrates that Homeloans is continuing to consolidate its position as a competitive alternative to the banks.”

The Homeloans MoniPower loan is a fully-featured loan with 100 per cent offset facility, no monthly or annual fees and very flexible credit criteria. It now sits at a very competitive 6.79 per cent, alongside the Homeloans Ultra which starts at 6.59 per cent.
